Step 3: Read (or Listen) and Watch the Queue Shrink
Here’s where Arc’s Unread Queue diverges from every other read-it-later app I’ve used. When you open an item from the queue and view it for about 3 seconds, it auto-marks as read and removes itself from the queue. The queue count drops from “12 items” to “11 items.” You see progress. That 3-second threshold matters more than you’d think. Most read-it-later apps require manual “mark as read” — which means you either forget (the item sits unread forever) or you bulk-mark everything as read without actually reading it (which defeats the entire purpose).
